Sandia Peak Tramway
The Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque is a breathtaking aerial tram that stretches 2.7 miles from the city’s edge up to the 10,378-foot summit of Sandia Peak. It is one of the longest aerial tramways in the world and offers a dramatic 15-minute ride with panoramic views of the Rio Grande Valley, desert landscapes, and forested mountain terrain. Built in the 1960s by Swiss engineers, the tram uses a double-cable system where two cars counterbalance each other, climbing nearly 4,000 vertical feet across deep canyons and rugged cliffs.
At the top, visitors can explore hiking and biking trails in the Cibola National Forest or enjoy fine dining with a view at the mountaintop restaurant, TEN 3. The area also provides access to the Sandia Peak Ski Area during the winter months, making it a year-round destination for outdoor adventure and sightseeing. The tram is one of Albuquerque’s most popular attractions and a must-do for both locals and visitors.
